Students who miss more than 10% of the regularly scheduled class meetings due to unexcused absences are subject to failing the course.
Students enrolled in an asynchronous course have participation expectations but not attendance.
Students enrolled in a blended remote format will be given clear instructions about attendance expectations. Generally, students enrolled in blended remote sections may not exceed 2 unexcused absences for the semester.
Students enrolled in TR sections may not exceed 3 unexcused absences for the semester.
Students enrolled in a MWF section may not exceed 5 unexcused absences for the semester.
For the purposes of this course, "excused absences" include verifiable medical or family emergencies, University approved activities (accompanied by a University excuse), illness (yours or a family member’s), and other absences as outlined in the University’s Class Attendance policy. Students should be prepared to document the reasons for the absence. Students whose absences are not excused will not normally be allowed to make up tests, quizzes, and/or assignments. Students who anticipate having a high number of excused absences should contact their instructor as soon as the situation arises so that they can make arrangements for how to handle missed class time.
Late arrival or early departures from class that are unexcused will be considered in the tabulation of absences as well. Once a student exceeds the maximum allowed absences, they at minimum will lose a letter grade and may be subject to failing the course.
If you are in an “in-person” class, you are expected to be in the physical classroom. All of Dr. P's courses are web-enhanced. As a web-enhanced course, we will have days in which we work on activities or do web-based media projects. These are pre-determined and you can find them in your daily course schedule posted in Canvas.
All class lectures for all sections are recorded on Zoom. Video and audio recordings of class lectures will be part of the classroom activity. The video and audio recordings are used for educational use/purposes and only may be made available to all students presently enrolled in the class. For purposes where the recordings will be used in future class sessions/lectures, any type of identifying information will be adequately removed. In certain circumstances, students may wish to attend using Zoom (for example, if a student has a contagious and mild infection or if there are weather barriers or car problems).
The student must reach out PRIOR TO THE START OF CLASS and request permission to join the Zoom room via email. The use of Zoom to attend class should be an exception, not the norm.
NO LATE FINALS WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT A UNIVERSITY-APPROVED EXCUSE.
Missed lectures and assignment discussions will not be "re-taught." It is your responsibility to be proactive and procure the information from another student in the course. Grades for late exams and assignments not due to excused absences will be reduced by 10% per 24-hour period late.
Due dates sometimes may be changed and schedules are tentative. This is the case for both the monthly calendar and Canvas due dates. Please review the weekly overview and make sure to be present and on time for classes for notifications about changes.
Assignment due dates will be added to Canvas when each weekly module is prepared, usually one week in advance. For a tentative schedule, please view the supplied course calendar which is accessible on the course website. If you are having difficulty finding the course calendar, please message me. All assignments are due at the beginning of class unless noted otherwise.
If our course has exams or quizzes, they will be given on the dates and times listed on the course provided course schedule. They will be held in the classroom we meet for regularly scheduled class, unless the final exam must be scheduled in a separate location. Final exam dates, times, and locations will be listed once the registrar finalizes them. The exams will start promptly at the course start time. If you are not on time for any exam except the final, you will need to schedule a makeup time and date. As such, the late policy will apply unless your reason for missing the exam or being tardy is university-approved.
Above, you will find a "Life Happened Card." This entitles you to one free late assignment without a university-approved excuse. Please print it out when necessary and turn it in along with your late assignment. You only get one per semester, so use it wisely! These may not be used on exams or finals.
